CAROL - Can you explain who the one "like unto the son of man" is in this scripture? Abraham 3: 27-28 27 And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first. 28 And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him.
Since Jesus is usually know as "the son of man" then "one like unto the son of man" can't be Jesus. Some say it is referring to Adam.
JOEL - "Like unto the son of man" is actually referring to Jesus. God sent the first one(Jesus). In the next verse it says the second(Lucifer) was angry because he was not chosen. We know it was these two, Jesus and Lucifer, who both asked to be sent in the council in heaven.
Patriarch Eldred G Smith said: "In that council in heaven, the plan and purpose of this earth life was explained to all the spirits, and then “the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.” (Abr. 3:27.)He who was selected was Jehovah, the oldest, who had promised that in going he would honor the Father and give him all the glory." (May 1976)
Your Abraham scriture is obviously talking about Jesus. It is referring to Jesus while in the premortal state as "like unto the Son of man", predicting he will choose to be called "the Son of Man" in the future.
We see this title for Jesus used also in Rev 1:13-18: "13. And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle." 14. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15. And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 16. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. 17. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18. I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
Also Jesus said, speaking of Himself as in verse 17 above: “I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father” (D&C 110:3–4).
Also it was Jesus ("like the Son of God") who was the fourth person in the fiery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. "He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God." (Dan. 3:25)
All these scriptures suggest that the one like unto the son of man is speaking of Jesus, not Adam.
